Research Project

– Ongoing Project –

The project, funded by Robert Bosch Stiftung, is dealing with the overall concepts and leitmotif of public realm. It asks the question if community is the right motif for a pluralistic society we live in. Isn’t there a need for spaces of coexistence, for negotiation of even for confrontation and conflict?
How does a pluralistic space look like? Can we design them by purpose or do they appear by coincidence, ephemeral and uncontrolled? Can we determine indicators, which lead to higher potential of pluralism?
These questions are asked by the project team, which consists of five interdisciplinary researchers from TU Munich, BTU Cottbus and from the KIT in Karlsruhe.

Since empirical fieldwork in the public realm and personal face-to-face discussions within the team are an essential and indispensable part of the project, the timeline of the project had to be extended due to the on going COVID-19 pandemic.
